The Beach People are the creators of the original ‘Roundie’, a beach towel like no other. Founded in 2013 by sisters and sea lovers Emma Henderson and Victoria Beattie in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, the duo have successfully created a globally admired brand of seaside luxe essentials for everyone, everywhere.
Inspired by their family, friends and seaside lifestyle, with their passion for creating beautiful and iconic products, it’s no doubt their first collection of round towels sold out in just weeks. Years later, their unique treasures can be found in living spaces near and far.
Designed here in Australia, Emma and Victoria present their inspiring stories to a team of expert designers and artists who hand draw and render the unique products within the range. The products are then tried and tested by the team in their own homes, at the beach and on adventures before making their way to you! Build to last, all of their unique treasures are of the highest quality for you to enjoy for many moons to come.
George Takes Ten
We sat down with Victoria, co-founder of The Beach People to find out how it all came to be. Here’s what she had to say.
1. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A hospital… I am aware that makes no sense, but I think I wanted to help people.
2. When and what was the moment that prompted you to start your own brand?
Emma and I were sitting on the beach one day, watching our husbands surf and Emma turned to me and said, “I think I am going to design round beach towels, in really beautiful designs, want to do that with me?”… and I said “yes”… the rest is history.
3. In 3 words, describe your occupation.
Mother, Hustler & Designer.
4. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Goodness, that’s tough! In a work setting, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can get done today.”. In life, “treat others how you would want to be treated.”.
5. What is your favourite creative outlet to get the juices flowing?
Travel! With all devices switched off!
6. Where do you see yourself and the brand in 10 years time?
I honestly see The Beach People as being one of the world’s most loved lifestyle brands. I would also like 3 more children, 2 more dogs, a cow and a shed full of chooks!
7. If you could invite any 5 celebrities to dinner, who would be on the guest list?
Just Beyonce… always Beyonce…
8. What was the last rule you broke?
A “keep out, do not jump” fence at a music festival…
9. Do you have any hidden talents?
I can swim an Olympic pool underwater in one breath… it’s because I am actually part mermaid…
10. What was the last movie you saw and was it any good?
I just watched “The Get Down” on Netflix and I loved it… I’m a Baz fan…
Why We Love Them
Nothing tops a beachside holiday and with summer just around the corner, we’re starting to make plans! Of course, we are equally excited about what we would be taking with us on our summer adventures and to tell you the truth… the ‘Roundie’ might just be the first thing we pack. Just imagine laying the hand-drawn Roundie towel on the sand, under a shade and lounging the afternoon away… See how much we love them? Just the thought of their iconic products sends us into a spin!
