Phones and cars don’t mix, but we still need them… especially when you’re driving around Tasmania on an epic road trip like we’ve just done. We have been through hundreds (ok maybe more like ten’s) of different mounting options for our mobile phone and most have fallen off overtime or never been that stable from the beginning. With two very different cars, a heavy duty 4×4 and a city zipper hatchback we wanted a little sumthin’ sumthin’ that was hard core but also looked good. The X-Grip Ram Mount from Modest Mounts turned out to be our new best friend during our Tassie trip and we’re happy to say he’s still going strong. Here’s a closer look.
Designed to be mounted to the windshield, Ram Mounts from Modest Mounts are a high-quality mounting solution. The mount is well-built and has that premium feel. There are loads of different mounting option for your vehicle, usage or device – we used the spring-loaded XGrip with suction cups and a twist-lock base designed for a super strong hold on glass and non-porous plastic surfaces. The X-Grip is a smart and simple design that expands and contracts to ensure it can custom fit any phone perfectly… So you don’t have to throw it out if you upgrade to a new model phone!
During our entire Tasmanian adventure, this mount was with us on our journey every day and on every road and I gotta say, the Ram Mount is pretty solid! The twist-lock base that is regarded as one of the strongest suction cups in the world and its X-Grip cradle, is not only strong but flexible. Not just limited to cars though, I have one of these in my boat and it handles the roughest conditions like a pro – and I must admit I do hammer it a bit. These are a list of compatible devices here.
Aside from mobile phone mounts, we also had the chance to try the GoPro mount and adapter that fits directly to the under-side of the camera, replacing the factory mounting bracket. This setup can also be mounted to many RAM double socket arms and mounts.
