The wait is finally over! We don’t like keeping secrets from you, which is why we’re thrilled to share with you the latest from Armadillo&Co, an extension of the Latitude Collection launched last June. The new additions to their Latitude Collection strike the perfect balance for contemporary interiors, offering an inviting sense of calm enlivened by gentle patterns and texture. We won’t keep you waiting any longer, let us introduce you to the new kids on the block!
The ‘sister’ to Armadillo&Co’s much-loved Zulu rug, Nala shares Zulu’s monochromatic tribal pattern and tactile design. Its impact on a space is immediate with the textural quality of the etched high-low pile adding warmth and interest. With a muted grey palette, it offers a more subtle, pared back pattern than its sibling. Sally Pottharst, Armadillo&Co’s co-founder, says this gives the rug an element of versatility. “In Nala, we’ve created a design that can fit seamlessly into any contemporary interior,” says Sally. “We found our inspiration in the graceful movement and agility of the hunting lioness for which it was named. You can see this echoed in the long linear pattern of the rug, which reverberates with a controlled energy.” Nala is ideal for use in bedrooms, with its plush pure wool pile offering a soft landing when stepping out of bed.
Reminiscent of ripples in the desert sand, Ghan’s innovative design explores the possibilities offered by a monochromatic palette. Contrasting high pile with flat weave, its mesmerising ebb and flow pattern results from the combination of the classic Afghan rug techniques of soumak weaving and the Berber knot. Dense diamonds of high pile randomly punctuate the diagonal matrix to add visual interest. This intentional irregularity in pattern and texture is a nod to the imperfections found in traditional antique rugs and to Armadillo&Co’s commitment to and love for handmade crafts.
“Even the finest handmade rugs have inconsistencies and flaws,” enthuses Jodie Fried, brand co-founder. “We see these beautiful imperfections as something to celebrate and enjoy.” Ghan is hand knotted from pure hand spun wool, with the naturally exceptional durability of the soumak weave makes it a fabulous addition to living areas, as well as bringing a sumptuous elegance to bedrooms. As with all Armadillo&Co rugs, Nala and Ghan are handmade by local artisans in India using sustainable and fair trade practices.
