Hey everyone. You might be asking yourself, that doesn’t look like any Melbourne suburb I know. You’re quite right. I’m in Bali, on my honeymoon, but as it turns out, my new husband doesn’t know how to relax. So I’m going to do a home tour for you, but I’m not going to let it interrupt my cocktail hour. Let’s have a look at the Ocean View 5 Villa at Uluwatu Surf Villas!
The first thing that I noticed about this villa was that it was incredibly, incredibly luxurious, and to be honest with you I was super surprised when I walked in here because it was really quite dark and quite moody, which is something that you don’t really associate with Bali, like at all, but it’s beautiful the way that they’ve done that because they’ve created this incredible cocoon and safe haven that blocks out the rest of the busy world, because if anyone’s been to Bali, it’s hot. I mean I’m spritzing over here. It’s chaotic. It’s busy. It’s noisy. And here, you walk in and you’ve got your own little safe haven. It’s beautiful.
The absolute heroes of this home, for me at least, are those incredible timber panelled sliding doors and also the linen curtains that are pretty much throughout. That is what creates this incredible cocoon, but also they’re very practical because they can actually be pulled across. You can block out all of that harsh sun and they block out a hell of a lot of heat, but they look deliciously glorious as well. The decor is minimal and elegant.
It’s got a very mid-century modern vibe going on, and this chartreuse green here is just divine. It’s really complementing what’s going on outside with those epic jungle vibes. Very simple, very minimal, very elegant. I love this L-shaped couch. It’s really cool. I love its subtle curve. It looks out over the pool. You can look back to your mates in the kitchen. You can look out over the jungle. I mean, it just has a really cosy feel to it.
There is a lot of reclaimed timber in this home. There is a lot of timber everywhere actually. It’s very dark. It’s very moody, but it has been used in different ways. That’s why those linen curtains are really important because they’re able to soften that heavy kind of masculine tone that’s created by just so much timber.
The other really cool thing that I absolutely love is downstairs in that irregular stone flooring. That floor is just such a beautiful organic floor, and it’s such a delight to walk over. The bathrooms are absolutely out of this world. I mean the view from that upstairs bathroom is completely next level. I can’t even begin to explain. You would never actually get off the toilet. It is just ridiculous. I love, love, love, love, love the way that they put linen curtains in the shower. I mean I’ve literally never seen that happen anywhere and it’s kind of genius. I love that the shower curtain overlaps the linen and protects it. It’s amazing. I love it.
The downstairs bathroom is a completely different tone as well. You’ve still got that incredible outlook onto the jungle, but you just feel like you’re in this kind of sunken cave. It’s very cold. It’s a complete oasis and it’s a totally different feeling to the one above, but each of them has this incredible luxurious feel. You’re basically living like a king.
What’s interesting I think about this villa is that there are two bedrooms. There’s the upper level and the lower level, and both of them have two very completely separate vibes going on. The upstairs bedroom is very much about views. It’s very open, it’s very Bali. You can see through to the ocean, you can see through to the jungle.
It’s all just about being part of the environment, but when you go downstairs and you go into that sort of lower level and you descend those incredible staircases, it’s welcoming you into this very cool oasis. It was the most incredible feeling walking down there. You just feel like you’re in a different space entirely. You’re really away from the world now. You’re sunken, you’re flanked by bamboo and palms and stone, and you’re just in your own little world and I just … it made you feel really safe.
Out of the two, I reckon my favourite bedroom is the one downstairs, purely because you’re in a completely different environment. It’s very cool. It’s very isolated and it’s exactly what you want when you want to escape from the intensely hot, crazy Bali life.
I really love this home. I love that this villa encapsulates true Bali life. It embraces nature, but it’s incredibly modern. It’s very unique and it’s incredibly secluded.
