Kalahari Celebrates Desert Inspiration
Hand woven from thick, sturdy hemp set against wavering lines of a luxurious wool blend, new Kalahari Weave balances generous doses of differing and durable texture. “It’s a richer, chunkier version of our popular Drift Weave,” describe Armadillo&Co co-founders Sally Pottharst and Jodie Fried. “We wanted to explore the Drift idea further – the closely coupled feel of strength and softness, being inspired by desert sands shifting.” The subtle design brings personality to any space, along with hefty warmth and comfort. “We drew on a gently wafting pattern, tonal natural colours, heat shimmers and that invigorating sun beaten feeling,” Jodie expands. “Thus the name Kalahari.”
Offered in two muted colour ways – Natural & Pumice and Natural & Chalk – all materials are carefully and sustainably sourced, in line with the design duo’s commitment to their environmental and philanthropic brand philosophy.
“Profit proceeds go back to our weavers’ villages to support local health and education services,” Sally explains. “Every rug purchased gives back to the village children – we consider them part of our extended family.”Armadillo Rugs have been Care&Fair and sharing prof its since their inception six years ago.
