It’s easy to get caught up in the digital world, staring at screens and carrying all those devices. Now more than ever, it’s a beautiful thing to sit down with a book or magazine and turn a page, free from pop-ups and notifications.
Until now, Hey Gents existed purely in the digital realm, focusing on exploring products and experiences to help enhance everyday life. When we found out they were launching their first print issue, we were over the moon. To top things off, they asked us if we’d like to be a part of their first edition! Perfectly timed with the recent launch of our Welcome Home collection, our co-founder Lucy Glade-Wright shared her top five home styling tips to keep in mind when styling your place.
Whether you have just moved into a new place or you’re looking to refresh your current surroundings, shopping for new furniture and homewares is always exciting. It’s a chance to get creative and have your living space reflect your personality. Knowing how to turn your house into a home isn’t always the easiest thing to figure out though.
Tip 1: Get the basics right. Choose key functional pieces to fill your home. We’re talking couch, bed, table and rugs. The trick here is to keep things simple and select styles that won’t date. Size is also really important! Opt for larger pieces to fill the space, this is a great rule of thumb especially when choosing a rug. Bigger is better.
Tip 2: Bedroom bliss. Your bedroom should be the most comfortable room in the house which means layering folks. The ultimate bed should have a quilt, sheets, four pillowcases and if you want to get impressive then add in some cushions and a blanket.
Tip 3: Don’t forget your walls. Artwork is the fastest and easiest way to transform your home. Bigger is better here too, so choose a large statement artwork for above your bed or couch. Otherwise, if you’re wanting to create a print gallery wall, style with odd numbers only (trust me, even numbers never work).
Tip 4: Fill the gaps. This is where the decorating comes in and it’s ok to have a bit of fun and mix it up. Don’t forget to have personal items on display as well, we love showing off our lifestyle like our record collection, skateboards, books, headphones, shoes, bags… just remember to keep it real and authentic.
Tip 5: Go green. Introducing greenery into your home is a no-brainer for instant good vibes. Plants will bring your home to life, freshen the air and improve your mood. Don’t forget to put pants on your plant, we love using pots or baskets to cover up their base.
