This year I decided to get a Xmas tree. A real one. The last time I had a real tree I was 14 and let’s just say that was a long time ago. The only thing missing this time around was that I didn’t have the big family bag of Xmas decorations… you know the one. Gathered over time and filled with random things you made in kindergarten, decorations that had been mauled by the dog and a sad crumpled angel that came out once a year for its time to shine. I loved that bag and loved decorating the tree even more. This year though, I had to start from scratch.
I’m not one for the traditional so I wanted to create my own decorations, but on the other hand… ain’t nobody got time for that. So my compromise was to buy some blank baubles and give them a bit of love. Here are some of my designs to give you a little bit of Christmas decoration inspiration.
I decided to stick within a set colour palette but had some fun with a range of different designs and patterns. My favourite was the ‘hodge podge’ (yes I named it myself) this was a messy patchwork of all the different colours mixed together to create a colourful, fun design. Super easy to do and really effective!
Start with one colour and paint patches around the bauble, randomly spaced, different sizes. Then repeat with a different colour until the entire surface is painted. Don’t load up too much paint, as it will be easier to dry and faster to add additional colours.
I ended up mixing the painted baubles with our Uashmama Paper Stars for a little bit of extra Christmas flavour. Happy Christmas folks, I hope you get your creative on and have a bit of fun this season!
