It’s all fun and games until you’ve spent hours on Pinterest trying to figure out what your style is… Know the feeling? Yeah, us too. It can be a daunting task trying to decipher which style works best for you. Let’s face it, with every season of The Block, new styles keep popping up with no end in sight.
A great starting point is to learn a little about each of the styles and how they differ from one another. Is matte black your spirit colour? Do you love to make a statement? If that sounds like you then you’re one cool customer. Or, are you all about simplicity? Do clean lines and right whites make you smile? Then you’re after a classic kind of life.
Remember, just like us humans, most rooms have elements of many different styles so don’t feel like you have to stick to just one look. Best to look at these styles as a starting point to investigate your own taste even further. There are endless interior styles to choose from, but let’s just start with the basics… Classic vs Cool.
A Classic kind of life.
Clean lines, fresh bright whites with just the right amount of soft, subtle colour. Life is all about simplicity, comfort and calm. You want your home to feel light and easy so naturally you gravitate towards clean, soothing palettes.
Classic interiors place great importance on symmetry, balance and order. Rooms following a classic design style are often inspired by nature. Neutral colour palettes are common. Softer tones like grey, terracotta, pinks and off white also feature strongly. Natural timbers, stone and marble are the key finishes and furniture is understated with nothing too bold or racy.
In your decor, use plenty of bright white but don’t forget to add in the occasional splash of colour. Accessories or textiles are great for a pop, keep the larger furniture pieces simple and fresh.

A Cool Customer.
Go on, break the rules… live a little! Bold and moody, matte black is your spirit colour and texture is your middle name. Make a statement because life is too short to be subtle.
You love interesting details like patterns and textures. You gravitate towards a moody colour palette; softer colours, darks or neutrals, but you also love a good metallic accent. You never shy away from statement pieces. You don’t feel the need to match, you prefer to mix up different elements to create a stylish mish-mash that reflects your spirit.
When it comes to your interiors, think concrete floors, exposed beams, unfinished surfaces, metal and galvanised steel. Your furniture is sleek, lower to the ground and often has metal frames with an emphasis on basic shapes and forms, just like our Oliver furniture range. Abstract elements and geometric forms in artwork or photography work well with this look too.
