This week we share our private chat with the owner of the Swanston Street House, featured in our most recent Let Us In home tour. Antoinette’s Italian heritage is the backbone of her passion for life, family and entertaining. She shares with us the process behind the build, design concepts and how she worked with her architect Robert Simeoni. We ask her what she would have done differently and what challenges she faced during the process. Antoinette also shares some of the key materials used and reasons why they were important. For anyone inspiring to tackle a new build, especially an addition to an existing home, this is an insightful and real account to get you thinking.
Walking through a transformed heritage home feels a lot like entering a doorway to another era while being in the present moment at the same time. Does that make sense? In the case of owner Antoinette, moving into this heritage house has been a massive undertaking. She purchased and moved into the property more than a decade ago and had lived in it for five years before attempting to revamp the house. By transforming the shabby structure, the new addition created and allowed new experience for its inhabitants without having to disregard the history of their existing home.
Before shooting this episode of our Let Us In home tour, she took us on an private tour of the entire house to share her story about the entire process of building her dream home. Hope you like it!
