Relatives you see once a year, a crowded dinner table and a couple of awkward hi and how are you’s. Sounds like Christmas! For many of us the holiday will mean that it’s time to prepare your annual conversation with family members you only see once a year. Not to mention the fact that you have to buy presents from Cousin Timmy who you don’t even really know. Yup, the holidays never fail to put us in a slightly complicated situation. Just keep your cool, be prepared with at least 3 interesting topics to talk about and then grab your food, find your spot and buckle in! Whilst we can’t save the day with conversation starters we can give you some gift ideas for the people that we all have in the family! Good luck.
The Head Chef
Let’s kick off with the star of the day! The unsung hero, the slave to Christmas, the cook!
Above all else, the Head Chef deserves a much-needed gift of appreciation for their work. After all, everyone else is just swanning about enjoying their prosecco in the living room whilst these legends are slaving away in the kitchen prepping the feast. Be extra kind to your Head Chef this year!
The Organiser
Every family has that one instigator who organises everyone and everything.
They like to keep every family member posted on just about anything. If there’s a Kris Kringle to organise, they’ll be there. If there’s a family drama to deal with, they’ll sort it. These are the people you most definitely want to keep on side, because one day you’re gonna need them! Gift them something that will soothe their organised soul.
The Slightly Drunk but Entertaining Uncle
Oh yeah, we’ve all got one. That weird Uncle that is happy to get stuck into the Sparkling Shiraz first thing in the morning and will often be caught sneaking beer to the young cousins under 18.
He’s a big kid at heart, he loves to party and festivity is his middle name. Be sure to keep an eye on this one though so that he makes it through the day ok!
The Head Carver
Everyone’s seated at the table, the ham and turkey are proudly laid out by the Head Chef and then the entire family will turn their heads and nod to the Carver!
The one person in the family that everyone trusts with their meat. This is an important position on Christmas day. Slice it too thick, it’s difficult to eat. Slice it too thin, everyone will hate you. This person knows their way around a knife, so best keep them inspired.
The Napper
Secretly we love a good nap and often there is always someone in the family who needs to head to bed early, but generally it’s not the bed, it’s the lunch table.
Keep the nappers happy and comfortable so they can enjoy their Xmas nap in peace!
The Aunt Who Loves To Relaaaxxx
It’s been a busy year, she’s a high flyer that’s been kicking goals all year round but today is the day she switches off and reaches firmly for the bottle of wine. After all she’s got to cope with the crazy uncle and the organiser breathing down her neck…
So perhaps get her a little sumthin’ sumthin’ that she will absolutely love.
The Loud and Kinda Annoying Minors
Oh kids, they are what make Christmas special! Well at least for the first half of the day, but as the hours roll on they can get a little bit… annoying.
So make sure you keep the kids entertained this year with gifts that will keep them occupied for hours.
Merry Christmas everyone! We’re going to leave you with another great Christmas tradition… watching Love Actually on the tele at least twice this holiday season!
