Hey guys. Today I am outside, not just any block, but the block. Which has just been completed and ready for sale this weekend. I wanted to take a look inside Tess and Luke’s pad. Queenslanders, Yellow Team, whatever you call them, either way, I just wanna get inside here and give it a rock solid Hunting for George road test. Are you with me? ‘Course you are, let’s do it.
First of all, coming into The Block, I didn’t quite know what to expect but I’ve gotta admit, I wasn’t expecting this, and I mean that in a good way. First of all, as soon as you walk into this home, the proportions are insanely generous. We’ve got huge rooms, the ceilings are incredibly high, the doors, everything is just maxed out, and it feels incredibly luxurious.
That formal dining room is really nice, as soon as you walk in, sets the tone, it sets a nice, elegant tone, but then as you move through the hallway, you move into the kitchen, oh my god, my kitchen jealousy levels are peaking. That kitchen is really, really good. We have to talk about that bench top, I mean, it’s so big. And it’s so good because, you know what? I have got a dining table at home but rarely do I ever use it. I am very much prone to, and it’s very bad of me, but I eat all my meals on the couch, but I so wouldn’t do that if I lived in this home because you’ve got an incredible island bench that is so functional, you would be there breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it’s such a nice space. So, if someone’s cooking dinner, they’re still integrated into the family, someone could be paying the bills, someone could be on their laptop, you know, doing some work. Chopping the veggies, someone else, like, on the couch watching telly. Everyone gets to be integrated, but everyone is able to do different functions and I really love that about this home.
Plus, there’s a very good little hidden area out the back, which leads you onto the lift. You’ve got the butler’s pantry and the laundry. It’s nice just to be able to chuck stuff away and get it out of sight, out of mind.
The spiral staircase is awesome, I don’t know how else to explain it, it’s really fun. It’s really fun, actually, to go up and down it, I would just get a kick out of it if I lived here, but also it look incredible, it’s almost like its own sculptural piece of art, so when you’re seeing it, especially from that bedroom, you look down over the staircase, and it is incredibly beautiful, and it just, sort of, sets it apart, it really is the heart, it’s the spine of this home and it really sets the tone.
The bathrooms, to be honest with you, my bath time is sacred, okay? I am a massive bath over shower gal, if there’s a good bath, I am just sold. Not only is there one good bath, but there’s three, epic baths and they are next level, especially that one on that very top level, that might be the largest bath I think I’ve ever actually been in, but it is incredibly indulgent and luxurious. I could literally just sit there all day, bubble bath, bottle of champagne, maybe some strawberries. Oh, my imagination is just taking away with me. This is a really nice space, I really love that. I also really like the way that every single en suite is functional and it’s all tied into every single bedroom.
The bedrooms are great, they’ve got a lot of storage, they’ve got a lot of really nice functional spaces, especially those two bedrooms, which lead out onto the outside balcony areas, which looks out over onto St. Kilda. But, I think my favourite bedroom is the one on the first floor, which has that beautiful aspect over onto the stairwell, leading your eye down to that outdoor entertaining area. That just feels incredibly cosy, it really is an incredible, sort of cocoon. There was just something about that, it was very rich, I love the texture, I love that wooden panelling, I couldn’t stop stroking it and touching it. It was really indulgent, really fun, and it just made you feel really good to be in that room.
We’ve also gotta talk about that whole ‘nother apartment within a townhouse that is out in the back. That is really quite smart, that could be used as anything, maybe it could be used as an Airbnb. But, I’m guessing the new owners of this pad probably don’t need an Airbnb, but I don’t know, tuck a nanny in there, maybe you’ve got, like, an adult son or daughter that just will not leave the house and you’re just kind of over it, you just shove them back there. Otherwise, you can just be the host with the most, if someone has too much to drink for dinner one time, you can just put them up in there and then, they end up staying the whole weekend, it is St. Kilda after all.
In terms of outdoor entertaining, you’ve got two different options. You’ve got that option that flows out from the living area, I think that is the area where you would spend a lot of your time because got the barbecue there, it’s just got a nice flow, you can open those doors right up. It just creates a really nice hub as it connects to the kitchen.
But, oh my god, roof terrace. Hello? Roof terrace, in St. Kilda. “The Secret Life of Us”, anyone? Hello, best show ever, living out my dreams. It’s just incredible, I think, to be able to be up there, elevated, looking out over St. Kilda, which is like one of the best places in Melbourne. Being able to see into the ocean, to the water, oh it just makes you happy, it makes you calm. I can, I don’t know, just smiling, I’m waiting for my invitation.
I was chatting to Tess and Luke and I was asking them about this process, how they found it and you know what they said? They definitely found their groove. It took them a couple of rooms to get themselves sorted into the vibe of what they were going for, but they became much more confident with themselves and they chose to back themselves and they really wanted to create a very indulgent home that, most importantly, they wanted to create a home. They wanted to create something that felt like home, and I’ve gotta admit, it is incredibly cosy. I’m sitting here in front of the fire, very warm, I might even be a little bit flushed, it’s like so warm and cosy, it has a really lovely feel. You do feel like you’re very much welcome, and I think that is one of the most important parts of a home. I was pleasantly surprised by this home and I have no doubt it’s going to find a very happy new owner and just quietly, I’ll come around for a barbecue anytime.
